Losing weight can take some of the pressure and strain off the lungs, which is often a problem when overweight people lie down to sleep. Smoking obviously increases respiratory stress and cuts down on oxygen flow. Alcohol acts as a depressant, which again slows breathing, and sickness and allergies can restrict the airways and affect air flow. If you are really concerned about ways to prevent snoring, the best recommendation is to take care of yourself and follow healthy living practices: watch your weight, do not smoke or quit smoking, do not drink alcohol late at night, and find effective treatments for allergies and sickness.
