If you're one of the 50 million Americans who suffers from snoring, you may also be one of the many who could benefit from a home remedy for snoring. Often passed down for generation, home remedies are generally made from common ingredients found in nearly all homes. Furthermore, these cures often seem to work in ways that modern, over-the-counter medicines cannot. Sometimes they even work better than prescription drugs!

In today's society, it may be quicker and easier to just pick a snoring aid off the drugstore shelf, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that. If, however, you have tried everything and are considering surgery or a dental tool, you might want to first give a shot to a home remedy. After all, if a homemade drug can keep you from going under the knife or the laser, wouldn't it be worth it?

Simple Home Remedies for Snoring

To begin with, there are several simple home remedies for snoring. For example, perhaps the most common remedy is to not allow the snorer to sleep on his or her back. Additionally, some people recommend avoiding foods rich in salt or fat and advise against eating or drinking right before going to bed. Others say that a firm pillow that molds to your head and neck will cure the problem.

The remedies go on and on. Snorers should lose weight and avoid alcohol, which loosens he muscles of the tongue and throat even more than normal. There are also recipes out there for honey drinks and other such beverages that are supposed to lubricate the throat. In addition to these, however, there is one really strange home remedy for snoring that calls for the snorer to sew a ball onto the back of his pajamas to keep him inadvertently rolling onto his back during the night!

While some home remedies seem logical and others seem downright absurd, it is important to remember that the same thing does not work for everyone. Do not be discouraged if you are failed by the first thing you try. However, if you think you might have sleep apnea, go to a doctor! Sleep apnea, a major cause of snoring, is potentially life-threatening, and you should not attempt to treat it at home in the same way that you would harmless snoring!
